Currently, I’ve been using my personal laptop as my HTPC. It’s an Acer Aspire 4810TZ-4120, and I love it. The battery lasts 8 hours (seriously!), it has a 500GB hard drive, not to mention 4GB of ram. I’ve got it hooked up via HDMI to a 37″ Vizio 720p LCD TV, which is a perfect size for my wife and I…for now :). I am using XBMC as my front end software, with all my media on a WD 2TB hard drive. It has worked well for me, but sometimes I wish I didn’t have to hook up my laptop to the TV every time I want to watch a movie or TV show, which is why I’ve decided to build my HTPC (more details on the HTPC to come in later posts).
